The Original Propex PS2000 Portable Propane Heater System

Designed and assembled in-house, and supported by our local Fort Collins, Colorado team. The Propex PS2000 Portable Heater System is our original portable suitcase heater: 6,500 BTU of clean, dry, thermostatically controlled propane heat in a rugged Pelican case. Hook up a 1 lb or larger propane tank, plug in a 12V source, and you have consistent heat for your rooftop tent, ice fishing shelter, tailgate, or hunting blind.

Looking for the newest design? The PS2000 Slimline is our newer, more portable, streamlined take on the same proven Propex heat in a compact aluminum case, and it is our recommended portable pick for most buyers.

Why Choose Propane Over Diesel?

Diesel heaters have their place, but propane can be a better fit for portable camping heat. Propane is clean and convenient, and the PS2000 keeps its combustion flues separate from the air in the heated space.

  • No diesel smell: No diesel fumes and no need to carry diesel fuel.
  • Cold-weather friendly: Propane does not have the diesel gelling issue that can complicate winter operation.
  • Dry heat: Unlike non-ducted portable heaters that leave your space soaked in condensation, the PS2000 produces dry heat.
  • High-elevation ready: Ships high-altitude modified, dependable from sea level to 10,000+ ft with no extra service needed.
  • Steady temperature: Thermostatically controlled operation with the included digital thermostat.
  • Quiet operation: Quiet enough for uninterrupted sleep or other activity.

Warm, Dry Heat Without Combustion Inside

The PS2000 is self-contained. The heater sits in its suitcase while heated air is ducted into your space, and the combustion flues stay separate from the air you breathe, giving you clean, dry, efficient heat.

Heater location Self-contained portable suitcase
Heated air Ducted into your space, separate from combustion
Combustion Sealed combustion flues, separate from the heated space
Heat type Forced-air propane heat
Thermostat Digital thermostat included
Case Rugged Pelican case with powder-coated combustion cover

What's in the Kit?

  • Heater suitcase
  • Digital thermostat
  • Heater ducting
  • LPG regulator and quick-connect hose
  • Quick start guide
  • 7200 mAh power bank battery (Yes Power Bank option only)

Best for

  • Rooftop tents, ice fishing, tailgating, and hunting blinds
  • Buyers who want the original rugged Pelican suitcase design
  • Setups that want an optional power bank stored right inside the case

Not the right fit if

  • You want the newest, lightest, most streamlined portable Propex (look at the PS2000 Slimline)
  • You want a permanently mounted interior furnace (look at the HS2000, or the HS2800 for 9,500 BTU)
  • You want permanent heat but have no interior room to spare (look at the HS2211 exterior / underfloor heater)

Compare Propex Heaters at Mountain Time Campers

Model Heat output Mount Best for
Propex HS2000 6,500 BTU Interior, permanent install Small to mid-size vans, trailers, and builds with a compact interior mount spot
Propex HS2800 9,500 BTU Interior, permanent install Larger vans, bigger trailers, and colder-climate builds
Propex HS2211 6,500 BTU Exterior / underfloor, permanent install Builds with no interior room to spare for a heater
Propex PS2000 Slimline (newest portable) 6,500 BTU Portable, no permanent install Our recommended portable pick for truck campers, tents, hunting and ice fishing shelters
Propex PS2000 Portable Heater System (original suitcase) (this heater) 6,500 BTU Portable suitcase, no permanent install Buyers who want the original Pelican suitcase with optional power bank

How to choose: Need heat without a permanent install? Start with the PS2000 Slimline, our newest and most streamlined portable Propex; the original PS2000 Portable Heater System suitcase is still available. Ready for a permanent install? The HS2000 gives you 6,500 BTU in a compact interior mount, and the HS2800 steps up to 9,500 BTU for larger vans, bigger trailers, and regular cold-weather camping. No interior room to spare? The HS2211 mounts outside or under the floor and ducts heat in. Going with an HS heater and camping high most of the time? Add the High Altitude Modification.

  • Flexible power: A dedicated space in the inner compartment stores the 7200 mAh power bank, but that is not the only way to power the suitcase. Any suitable 12V source works.
  • Flexible positioning: The suitcase can be used upright or laid down with the metal combustion cover downward.
  • Thermostat cable: Always connect or disconnect the thermostat cable with the power source disconnected. Connecting or disconnecting it while powered may overload the onboard fuse and/or cause a fault code.
